Robert Update

Happy Monday,

We were able to speak with Robert on Sunday for about 15 minutes. He is doing great and is looking forward to being done with Basic Training.
Last week they had their final Physical Fitness Test, he said he scored 200 which is well above average. He has lost 40 pound and is running a mile in 7:18. They spend the better part of the week doing more combat, target and engagement training. They got SMOKED on Friday and Saturday which really wore him out he said. It had been a rough week for the whole Base. They lost 2 of their own in Iraq and were just flown home over the weekend. One of the DS stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood died in a motor cycle accident last week as well. It was a hard week for the staff, which then rolls down hill to those pee-on’s at the bottom.
He was looking forward to this week of training. They will be trained in ‘Live Fire Crawl’, which is where they are crawling across a field (under barbed wire) while being shot at just over their head with live rounds. They will be sent out for a three day field training exercise which will include more detailed training in the various forms of fighting. When they get back Roberts Company, 250 soldiers will be going up against another Company in a Laser Tag Competition. They have been told this is a million dollar laser tag system. Robert says they are all really looking forward to this.

His Company Commander asks that no one write to them a week before they are to leave the base, mail is very slow. I will email his new address as soon as I get it. He does not know if he will have access to a computer for email or how much free time he will have. I will keep you all updated on everything that is going on with him. We leave for Missouri October 17th and return the 21st. We have an 11:00 AM briefing on the Base Thursday to get all the details on graduation and what happens at his new Base. We meet with him at 2 PM and can spend the day with him, we have to have him back by 9 PM. The ceremony is 8:00 AM Friday, we do not get any time with him that day at all. He is put on a bus 2 hours after the ceremony for an 18 hr. bus ride to San Antonio where he will be going to school for LVN/ Medic Specialist.
I want to thank all of you for praying for him and writing him.
I am so grateful that we have such wonderful family and friends.

Love and prayers,
Loretta
