Robert Update
Posted by LPate on October 3rd, 2007 filed in RobertHappy Wednesday,
We received a call from Robert Sunday about 2 o’clock, he only had 9 minutes this week. Seem some of the Squads (8 guys that room together) were caught sleeping instead of cleaning their Barracks like they were supposed to be, well they ALL got smoked and had some privileges taken away.
He said he had a good but long week. They received their Class A uniforms (dress greens). They were taught to us bayonet’s and how to block an attack from one. They did bayonet drills and went through a ¼ mile course using them on targets and blocking attacks from them. He said Friday was the best day yet. They did combative training (hand to hand combat). They learned all kinds of moves to control a fight and get out of one. They finished with what they call a Brave Heart Drill. This is where 2 rows line up a distance apart, facing each other and then have to crawl toward one another and fight till one side is completely taken out. Roberts side won.
He is glad that they only have 19 days left! He is looking forward to starting his LVN Medic Specialist schooling.
We got a short letter from him in the mail yesterday. They did Land Navigation and trained with a compass and map, (he knew what to do cause he had learned it in scouts). They were sent in teams of 6 to the field in the afternoon. They were supposed to find 3/5 points in 1 ½ hrs. and go back to camp. His team went running through the woods to each point, up and down ravines, through creeks, about ½ kilometer apart, they got back 12 minutes early. They were sent back out for a night time course. In teams of 15, they had to find 3 points in 1 hr. Robert spotted the first two posts, one was barely visible and people still didn’t see it till he went over to it. They finished in 40 minutes and everyone was ecstatic because they were the 4th group out of 20 groups.
He loved getting the card from all of you guys in Troop 41. Thank you!
Love and prayers,
Loretta
