Robert Update

Spoke with Robert for about 8 minutes on Sunday and received a short letter yesterday. Drill Sergeants keep them VERY busy. He only has 1 hour of ‘Free’ time a day where he has to do personal writings, cleaning and organization, therefore we don’t get too much information. This is what I have:
They were smoked last week with running drills. Made to go up and down bleachers at the large stadium for quite a while. While on a break 2 of the guys laughed at Drill Sergeant Willson and as a result they all got smoked again that evening, (he did not elaborate, except that he was very much in need of a shower). His squad was put to the ‘gas chamber test’ last week. Robert described it as: We had to go in with our eyes shut and breath held, put on gas mask and equipment as fast as possible keeping eyes shut, take in some quick breaths, then a DS taps him on the should, they have to hold breath again take off the mask and open their eyes. He said it burned their eyes soooo bad that some of the group took in a shocked breath ,which then caused them to cough and spit up, he said that some were crying and screaming because it was burning their lungs. Robert made it through without taking in a breath, thank God, it did take a while for his eyes to get back to normal.
Through all this he says “all is good”, he says “Hi” and sends his love to all.
What our Troops go through in training and in duty to protect our Great Nation; may we be forever grateful to them.
Have a great week!
Love,
Loretta
